Our new partner site, the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, is offering Tramper hire from their Ravenglass Station. This route makes the village of Ravenglass accessible by Tramper, as it takes you to the beautiful promenade which boarders the estuary and looks out over the Drigg sand dunes. The estuary is the confluence of three rivers: the Irt, Mite and Esk. All of which are names of Steam Engines which run on the Railway.
The Tramper route also takes you along the Eskdale Trail to the Roman Bath House. The estuary was used as a natural harbour by the Romans and was an important village for them. They had a camp here, the remains of which are buried, but the bath house walls are still standing with the original cement holding strong.
Exploring Ravenglass by Tramper can be combined with a stunning trip on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, with return trips to Eskdale from Ravenglass available to book on their website at www.ravenglass-railway.co.uk
There are refreshments available too, both at the Turntable Cafe on the station or the Ratty Arms in the village.
The Tramper is available each day at 1pm and each session is 2hrs30mins long. You can book the Tramper and find out more at www.outdoormobility.org/ravenglass-eskdale-railway
With thanks to the Walney Community Extension Fund for the funding that made this fantastic site possible!
