One Tramper is available to hire, daily, at the visitor centre.
The daily hire slot is at 11am.
The session lasts for 3 hours.

Wood Moss Tarn route is about 5.5 miles or just under 9km long, heading south from the visitor centre and passing the Wood Moss Tarn, before looping back northwards, through wooded hills and re-joining the track already covered to
return to the visitor centre. This route is great for wildlife watching, is popular with mountain bikers and includes some steep uphill sections.

NOTE: A short section of the forest track is uneven and, while perfectly safe for the Tramper, it may feel rough. Please speak to staff on site if you are not sure whether the route is suitable for you.

Members must be accompanied on the route by another person during the Tramper hire session, due to limited or no mobile signal.

Recovery from the forest in case of an emergency:

It is very rare that there are any issues of breakdown with the Tramper. If something unforeseen does happen Forestry England are currently unable to recover members of the public. Should this happen, you need to have a person with you who is able to drive their own vehicle into the forest (escorted by a staff member of Forestry England) to recover you. If this is not possible or the incident requires it, the emergency services will be called (ambulance or mountain rescue) to recover you from the forest.
